This notice describes the World Map Viewer at globeunfold.com, also called Globe Unfold. The map explorer does not require an account, collect uploads or take payments.

Approximate initial location

When you open the map explorer, your browser sends a request directly to IPWHOIS at ipwho.is. That provider receives your IP address and ordinary network request information. The app requests an approximate latitude and longitude to center the globe. It does not request GPS access or precise device location. IP estimates can be wrong, especially with a VPN.

The coordinates are held in page memory for the current visit. The app does not save your IP address or coordinates in local storage or an application database. IPWHOIS may keep its own service logs under its linked policy. If the lookup fails, the app uses a default view.

Language preferences

Each map language has its own URL, such as /en/ or /ko/. The URL determines the displayed language, regardless of your browser language or a saved preference. Changing the language updates that address and also saves the choice on your device under world-map-viewer.language; the saved value does not override a language URL. The app does not send the preference to an application database. You can remove the saved value by clearing this site's browser data.

Hosting and security

OpenAI Sites hosts the website using Cloudflare infrastructure. Hosting and network providers process request information such as IP addresses, requested URLs, browser details and timestamps to deliver and secure the site. Their processing and retention are governed by their policies: OpenAI privacy policy and Cloudflare privacy policy. The app has no user profile database. Optional Google Analytics is described below.

Optional Google Analytics

If you choose “Allow analytics”, this site loads Google Analytics 4 to measure visits, referral sources, device/browser information, engagement and feature use. Product events include projection changes, region presets, globe rotation/zoom, flat-map interactions, language and layer changes, and map loading success or failure. The app does not send IP-derived coordinates, map-view coordinates, email addresses or an application user ID in these events. Campaign UTM parameters are included for traffic attribution; other URL query parameters and fragments are removed from the configured page URL.

The analytics tag is not loaded before you allow it. Declining keeps it disabled. “Analytics settings” in the footer lets you change your choice; withdrawal stops future collection and deletes this site's accessible Google Analytics cookies. It does not erase data already sent to Google. Your choice is saved locally under globeunfold.analytics-consent.v1 for up to 180 days. Google Analytics first-party cookies are configured with a 180-day lifetime, which can renew on later visits. Advertising storage, advertising personalization and Google Signals remain disabled in this analytics integration.

Google processes analytics data under its privacy policy. See Google Analytics data collection information or use the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Hosting and the approximate-location request are separate from the optional analytics choice.

Google advertising

Google AdSense is being set up for the area below the maps. Actual ads and the advertising script are currently disabled. The ownership verification meta tag and public ads.txt file identify the publisher and do not themselves send advertising requests.

When ads are enabled, Google and third-party advertising providers may use cookies and similar technologies to deliver and measure ads, prevent fraud and, where permitted by your choices, personalize ads based on previous visits to this or other websites. Google and its partners may use advertising cookies for those purposes. See Google advertising privacy information and Google's privacy policy.

You can turn off personalized Google ads in My Ad Center and find third-party opt-out choices at YourAdChoices. Browser controls can delete or block cookies and site storage. Before activating ads, we will configure the required consent messages and update this notice to reflect the live setup.
